Using a Small Heater to Warm Spray Foam Insulation Kits Before Using

Foam needs to be at 80 - 85 degrees to work its best. You can heat up our kits with a small electric heater placed 18 – 20 inches away from the kit for a period of time. Lift or keep the gun hose assembly out of the way so as not to melt the plastic. After an hour or so, turn off the heater. Once the heater is off, wait ten minutes and feel the tanks with your hand.  If they are still warm to the touch you are ready to go. If they are barely warm, then they are still too cold to work correctly and you will not get anywhere near the published yield.

You can spray on a cold surface and get great results if the tanks are preheated.  The principal of foam is that an exothermic reaction (a chemical reaction in which heat is released) takes place when the A and B side meet and the heat generated helps the foam expand. Spraying on to a cold surface acts as a heat sink.  When spraying on to a cold surface it is best to lay down a haze coat of 1/8 inch and let it cure. The next pass of foam will weld to the first 1/8 inch coat and insulate it from the cold and allow it to be brought up to the desired thickness.
